0 Implementing S/MIME for Windows Mobile white paper

Email security is extremely important for companies of all sizes. Because modern mobile devices offer access to a wide variety of sensitive information, including the company's e-Mail-, calendar data and contact information, there are more and more interested in solutions, these pieces of data both protect during transmission (as they move from place to place) and alone (are stored while they on a server, computer, or mobile device).

This paper describes the S/MIME protocol that explains the options for the procurement, installation and use of certificates; Describes various methods to the certificate store and its attributes; and describes how to protect S/MIME messages, and receive, Windows Mobile devices. The information and instructions in this document apply to Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6 devices and users, whose Postfächer are hosted on Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2007.
