0 ArchiCAD 9 3D for architects: part I

ArchiCAD 9 arrived with what at first I thought they were small improvements. But add up to a lot, especially for 3D visualisation work, and work on a laptop with a cramped screen (Figure 1). The latter situation can occur often now that ArchiCAD supports the terminal server technology that enables you to work on the Internet from a remote location.

This new release also benefits from improvements in DWG compatibility and an improved search system that allows library symbols to be found by name (Figure 2). About 2,600 symbols are included in libraries supplied with the software.

Text input and display are improved. Users can grab the dimension text with visible handles to move and edit and paste even entire blocks of text formatted by most word processor (Figure 3). All this is particularly important for the market of ArchiCAD architects, builders, designers and managers of facilities (there is a special version of ArchiCAD for FM). Among the majors, full-featured (and we need to add expensive) CAD packages, ArchiCAD and Nemetschek's Allplan are specifically intended for the market. Bentley and Autodesk add an architectural interface to their products. ArchiCAD gives much more power than the architectural design software package, but it's still easy, flexible and intuitive to use.

0 Convert your 2D floor plan to a 3D model of ArchiCAD DXF and DWG files

0 Manufacturer or ArchiCAD and behavior of the wall

This document provides a summary of the behaviors for the wall in the current object and ArchiCAD, GraphiSoft constructor.
The appendix is quoted directly from the help files in the constructor. It provides detailed information of an object of the wall, including its buildings and behaviors.
Five activities are to be studied in this report, including:
1) is a segment of wall delimited by having a unique floor plan?
2) is a wall bordered a plane one roof?

0 Structural design with ArchiCAD and its integration with the structural software

Architectural design of the building and its physical structure are closely interrelated: on the one hand, the architectural design of the building defines the structure; on the other hand, the structural design of the building reflects the design in architectural complex. As a Visual and aesthetics became part of modern architecture design, structures must be the lightest possible while retaining complete integrity. In addition, the structure must be optimized for performance and price.

Standard for structural design
The standards set by the authorities and developed over the decades are traditionally different for each material (RC, steel, wood, etc.) in each country or region (for example, DIN in Germany and Central Europe; BS in United Kingdom; AISC in United States). Lately, there has been a tendency to unify these into a common standard – at least through regional economies, as European Union Eurocode.

Production and structural analysis
ArchiCAD provides information to sophisticated design together with the necessary level of detail of the model. This information can be directly imported and exported in native format or structural software through IFC and used for structural analysis by a specialized software. These add-ins import/export full integration design and structural analysis simulation program that enables you to dramatically improve simulation approaches of all construction in the design, engineering, manufacturing and construction. This opens new doors for structural optimization and cost savings and performance.

Using ArchiCAD with these tools provide great benefits both the architects and structural engineers. Why structural analysis tool to directly access models ArchiCAD Virtual Building, feedback on the structural design of the building can be obtained at any time during the design process. 0 Permission granted: ADC Triumphs on a site with ArchiCAD

The site was in a very attractive location, inside one of the hotspots of the Midlands housing. The private path in a green leaf was perfect for the development of high quality detached four 2500sqft home 2.5 floors. However, our proposal would design many backland sitting on development, more houses built within an area already built up, on the edge of Sutton Park. "We were confident that we could design a schema that would give the maximum site coverage whilst retaining the leafy setting.

The trick would be to reassure the residents of four Oaks, who had already established several action committees to oppose and thwart many backland sitting on developments in their neighbourhood and many similar systems had been refused planning permission ".

2D to 3D
ADC was formed by Nick Kirkland in 2001. The practice has focused on residential sector and become adept at dealing with the problems of local planning. Initially, ADC was committed to use CAD software 2D MicroStation, but realizing that the practice had to innovate to succeed, Kirkland and his team decided to about 18 months ago to move to a 3D work platform.

0 Piano Suite user guide

The Floor Suite includes a number of custom objects made to compile and planning mid-floor framing and ArchiCAD tool add-on that allows the user to operate more easily with objects, create schedules and export this data into an XMLfile.

Installation
To install the LayUp coverings on your computer:
1. FloorSuite.zip download the installer and double-click on the file. zip to extract the file. exe installer.
2. double-click the file FloorSuite.exe. exe to run the Setup program.
3. follow the instructions to complete the installation of screen-

Tips
If you are installing over a network, make sure that you are logged on as the system administrator.
If you placed the library in ArchiCAD 10 library the library will automatically be loaded as part of the library ArchiCAD 10, as it exists in a subfolder
If you did not install ArchiCAD 10 library at the library, or have not included the ArchiCAD Library 10 in loaded libraries, you must load the library Suite floor separately. See the screen shot ...

The tool is used for entering a flat image file as a jpg. in 2d format. In particular, this is generally useful when inserting information on the site, such as site boundaries, contours etc and can also be used where sketch designs were completed by hand and the design is making the transition to cad.
the:: before you put a figure, ensure the scale of 2d window for coresponds scale of drawings be placed [if it is a drawing scale]. This will ensure that the figure will be placed on the correct scale.
II: the figure lies in the 2d elements tool. Select this tool and start a figure placing folder, open the Settings dialog figure tool. From there click Open under the tab "Preview and positioning".
III: from file dialog box, select the file that you want to move and click Open, and then click ok in the settings dialog.
IV:: Add-ons for the figure in the window, click once in the desired position.

0 Resene colour range File to ArchiCAD

These allow you to quickly and easily use the Resene colour s wide range of ArchiCAD in your projects. You can quickly test different color schemes & provide your customers with more realistic 3D visualisations. These color files require ArchiCAD 9 or higher and work on both Mac & PC.
All colors were made in ArchiCAD materials and have been optimized for use with the Lightworks rendering engine.Resene colours are added to your project file or template is an easy process:
1. open the attribute Manager within your project and select the materials tab.
2. press "open" and select the file I upload color Resene. Press "open"
3. Select the colors that you want to add and press "add". Add as many colors as you want. You can also open other Resene colour file, load colors from different ranges. When you have finished adding additional colors press OK


The Resene colour has been selected now that have been added to your ArchiCAD materials project menu of s and now can be easily applied to walls, slabs, roofs, etc. objects throughout the project

0 RTF in ArchiCAD 9

One of the great improvements to Rest is the rich text in the working environment. On the principle that everything that appears in the plan must also work in GDL, is there a way to author Rich Text in GDL – but it is very hard work! Is not simply a matter of using something as simple as BB code.

BB Code is easier
When you've tried RTF in GDL wishes it was. BB Code is used in bulletin board systems like ArchiCAD speaks as an easy to learn and simple text formatting method – reminds me of word processing in the early 1980s, but it is applied to the text of HTML style.

For example, "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog ' may be written as ' [B] Quick Brown Fox [/B] [color = red] Quick [/color] [I] [/I] lazy dog '. This would give us the ' fox ' in bold and italicized ' dog ' and ' jumped ' in red and the rest of the sentence in absentia pen color. It is very simple – with a square begins an action code, and ends with the same square bar code.

There are masses of tutorial on BB-Code on the internet – you can even include images and URLs. You can change the size and color and lettering style. We should all put pressure on GS to keep the new system (for backward compatibility) but to make another available for small brain bears like us to use, using a version of BB code.

Hierarchy of Rich Text
Rich Text in GDL works a bit like solid modeling. You must build the styles definitions, assemble paragraphs and blocks of text and then use the RICHTEXT finally enter the result (a bit like PLACEGROUP). There is a systematic hierarchical sequence to get it right. Writers GDL hardened like due to the vastly improved appearance in self labeling and dimensioning objects, but normal users will be happy to get away with GDLS in the way we have for the last few versions of GDL, changing colors, maybe. Investment objects (where time is rewarded in terms of the number of times that you will use the object), it's worth learning how to do this. Word wrap is dynamic, so if you have to resize the hotspot chart text width, you'll get a result looks very powerful.

Try some Rich Text
The best way to find out for yourself how RICHTEXT and RICHTEXT2 work in GDL is to create a rich text sample in ArchiCAD and drag it from 2D floorplan GDL Scripts and see what it does as an autoscript. Once learned, 2D is very easy to adapt the result to become 3D text. As usual, the autoscript gives a very prescriptive for all numbers (pens, font sizes, indents, spacing, letter etc.) but intelligent parametric routine in your script can run Parametrically.

0 ArchiCAD tips

Print as a PDF file:
Established first line weights. Like to use thin lines for the on screen display and for the most part allows quick print (very thin lines). Line thicknesses are established in pens and colors dialog box. You can select a pen color, and adjust the thickness for printing or viewing on the screen. There is another dialog for determination if you do not see fine lines on the screen or line thickness. Just use thin lines on the screen: easier for precision in making things easier on my eyes.

On a Mac, I zoom in first place in the area that want to print a pdf file, and I use a proportion of the window which refers to the size of the portrait or landscape page orientation. Then set the page layout (horizontal or vertical). Then go File/Print, set the printer to use the highest quality resolution and decide on color or black and white, set parameters for ArchiCAD (same menu) for a page and print the current zoom area, then print to pdf (option in the lower left). PC printing is similar, but much of the functionality described above is regular Mac in the main dialog box.

Someone asked if you can draw a plan of the site on top of the 3D model plan view. Of course. I suggest blocking all layers containing 3D elements, then make new layers for text, lines, fills, etc. Work on 2D 3D items blocked, then you can hide layers with 3D elements when you want to print.

Later in the development of your project when you are not using lines to show the edges of walls or building, you can use the wall to show the building's walls and you can use the tools of Windows and doors to save a lot of time instead of just drawing lines (makes no sense to do thisWhen you develop the design in more detail). However, still use a lot of lines to define the features I don't care to model in 3D (the shelves I'm not going to see in a rear storage area when you call for a 3D rendering of Hall).

To print the floor plan in pdf and bring it into Photoshop for further handling: ArchiCAD makes sure all fills the display etc as vectors, bitmaps, not before printing to pdf or not working (pdf file generates an alpha channel: you can overlay your pdf plan drawing in a raster image in Photoshop to see the raster image behind the lines of the floor/walls). Importing a pdf file in photoshop gives you resolution options: size, dpi, etc. Adjust the size of your final rendered image if producing a superposition of plane on a raster image.
